The temperatures are warm and even the nights are mild, so you can enjoy this haven surrounded by nature at any time of the year. You should really taste the delicious Gomeran biscuits and palm honey, which can be bought in many shops in Valle Gran Rey.

Valleseco is located in the centre-north of Gran Canaria. It is made up of two main ravines, Barranco de la Virgen and Barranco de Madrelagua, and a central, drier valley, giving the municipality its paradoxical name. At an altitude of 1,000m above sea level, Valleseco is often enveloped in a “sea of clouds”, which gives it its distinctive deep green landscape. A visit to the local Ethnographic Museum is another must.

The protected landscape of Ventejís, one of the most prized natural areas of El Hierro, lies within the municipal area of Valverde. The location is sacred to the Bimbaches – aboriginal people of El Hierro – because of the presence of a special Garoé tree. In this 1,143-hectare-wide rural landscape there are many dry-stone walls and buildings that typify the traditional El Hierro construction style.

The Natural Park of Jandia is in the municipality of Pájara, at the southern tip of Fuerteventura. Its maximum altitude is the peak of Zarza, with 807 meters above sea level. In this area of unique nature grows the endemic plant representative of the island of Fuerteventura, the cardón of Jandia. The panoramic view of the bay to admire the so-called Arco de Cofete also stands out in Jandía for its beauty.

This trail route starts on the west coast of La Gomera, in the very capital of the island. The first climb, a daunting 12 kilometres is enough to realise that this is not a run for beginners. This is followed by a ten kilometre descent. The chance to contemplate the impressive landscapes of El Barranco de Las Lajas and the Palacios dam makes the effort very worthwhile. Nearby is the impressive Natural Monument of Palacios, the highest point of the run, at 1,150 metres above sea level. A stop off to drink and to contemplate the wonderful view of El Teide is a must.

This circular trail passes through the beautiful Natural Park of Tamadaba and areas of land in the northwest of Gran Canaria and starts in the neighbourhood of San Pedro in Agate. A 39 kilometre route which is only suitable for experienced runners. Along the run, impressive views of Roque Nublo, Roque Bentayga and the Tejeda basin as well as one of the best preserved pine groves are to be contemplated and enjoyed.

In the town of Corralejo, in the north-east of Fuerteventura, you’ll find the kitesurfing spot called Flag Beach. Situated opposite to the Isle of Lobos, the spot sits on a protected area and is ideal for kitesurfers of any level. The wave peaks and breaks in different directions along the beach, making it an ideal location for all kitesurf enthusiasts, regardless of their previous experience. Entry into the water no Flag Beach is very easy, even for newcomers to the sport.

In the north of Lanzarote we find the Jameos del Agua kitesurfing spot in the middle of a most impressive volcanic landscape. This spot is only recommended for experienced kitesurfers and although it can be enjoyed all year round, it is in spring and summer that conditions are optimum for kitesurfing. The winds in this spot blow in a NE direction, forming a long fast left hand wave, hollow at some points and which can reach up to three metres in height.

The kitesurfing spot of Playa del Burro is situated in Corralejo, in the north-east of Fuerteventura. It’s the perfect location during the summer, when the north-easterly trade winds are more frequent and more consistent. While a certain amount of experience is necessary, the beach area offers good conditions for learning. The waves generally break to the left and are short, making them perfect for those who enjoy the jumping categories. There is a friendly, relaxed vibe on El Burro beach.
