Paragliding in Taucho

Every single day someone takes a paragliding jump from Adeje’s mountains. This borough in the south of Tenerife is home to some of the best areas for paragliding in the whole of the Canary Islands, and Taucho is, without doubt, one of them. An attractive site for paragliding enthusiasts, which consistently brings pilots in from all over Europe, however it is a destination recommended only for the most experienced paragliders, due to the fact that this area is very different from the others and the flight is leeward (downwind), not windward (upwind).

Windsurfing at Bristol Shooting Gallery

Bristol Shooting Gallery is located on the outskirts of Corralejo in the north of Fuerteventura. The popularity of this windsurfing spot is due to its demanding break, only suitable for advanced level windsurfers. The left wave is very consistent, while the right is shorter but with big walls and hollow sections. Be careful when entering and exiting the water, there are strong currents that can drag kit into a dangerous zone.

Playa de Punta Larga

60 metres long, Punta Larga is a beach that lies between La Arenita and Las Arenas. Taken together the three beaches add up to about 230 metres in length. This means they’re a great spot for running with ocean views. Because of the volcanic sand, pebbles, and boulders—water shoes are recommended, although you can access the sea directly through a 35 metre platform. This location is rarely busy, except in summer. It’s a fun family beach that’s protected by a breakwater so that children and adults can enjoy a safe swim.

Iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Arucas

This spot—the man church of the city of Arucas in Palma—is popularly known as the Cathedral of Arucas. Although the building is grand enough to be so, it isn’t, in fact, a cathedral. Large stone towers, pointed arches and an exceptional facade of neo-Gothic architecture house various chapels such as the Nuestra Señora del Carmen chapel. There are also altars illuminated by stained glass windows. Both worshipers and visitors come to admire a chapel that was built on the foundations of the old city hermitage.
