Surfing at Los Lobos

On the south-west coast of Lobos, a small islet north of Fuerteventura, you’ll find the longest wave in the Canary Islands. Los Lobos is an unusual wave but when the ideal conditions converge it becomes the perfect wave in its length, varied sections and quality. To access the spot you have to take a boat that sails from the tourist resort of Corralejo to reach Los Lobos and follow a track from its port for about an hour until you have gone around the Montaña Caldera volcano.

Cubo de la Galga

Caldera de Taburiente

Located in the heart of the island of La Palma, the Caldera de Taburiente National Park offers several different possibilities for all trekking fans. As well as the excursion to enter the park via Mirador de Los Brecitos viewing point, and exit it subsequently through the Las Angustias ravine, the surroundings also include routes alongside the nearby Pino de la Virgen pine tree, through the recreational zone of La Cumbrecita and even up to the Bejenado peak, and to delight in a unique panorama of the interior of the Caldera. Anyone who prefers not to undertake the entire route has the option of visiting the Park from the Mirador de la Cumbrecita viewing point, which can be reached by car; or entering and leaving the park by the Barranco de las Angustias ravine.

Nacientes Marcos y Cordero

Located in the northern region of the island of La Palma, the pathway goes parallel to the canal which collects water from the water springs and then flows along the big crater of Marcos y Cordero. It goes through these ravines and merges in the Agua ravine. The landscape, full of Canarian pines and native vegetation, allows the enjoyment of a series of large vertical walls which are typical in the north of the island.

Playa Santiago-Benchijigua

Located in San Sebastián de La Gomera, this route gives a good sample of the island’s landscapes. The hike goes through the verdant hills in Agando, palm groves in the bed of the ravine and at the end, native plants like Canary Island Spurge and Hercules Club near a hamlet of rural architecture with houses scattered among the allotments of crops. Also to be seen are areas of cereal growing land in the hermitage of Saint John the Baptist, an old hydraulic mill in Pastrana and modern infrastructure to collect water like the well and reservoir in Benchijigua.

Contadero-El Cedro

Located in the municipality of Hermigua, this walk crosses a valley which traps the clouds the trade winds bring. This high level of humidity allows greenery to flourish species like ridge heath woodland, Myrica faya and laurel forest. It is worth mentioning the great variety of trees native to Garajonay such as Indian Bay, laurel and linden trees. This walk through the hills of La Gomera ends at El Cedro waterfall, a natural 150 metre high waterfall which fills the reservoirs in the farming valley of Hermigua all year round.

Valle Gran Rey - La Calera

Located in the municipality of Valle Gran Rey, in the southwest of the island of La Gomera, this trek goes along one of the traditional paths which for centuries were used as a link between the coastal towns and the villages in the countryside and mountain areas. Its route through the ravine takes us to a beautiful palm grove which borders allotments of crops in one of the most unique rural images throughout the archipelago.

Bajada de Faneque-Tamadaba

The area of Tamadaba has one of the best preserved pine forests in the north of the island of Gran Canaria which is a unique area because of its network of ravines, scarps and mountain ranges. On this walk, it is also worth pointing out the important colonies of Euphoria and Canary Island Spurge. Of interest too are the isolated hamlets, many of which are abandoned, these are of archaeological interest examples being El Risco or the valley of Guayedra. Near the sea, the slopes and cliffs ascend over one thousand metres above sea level.

Roque Nublo

Located in the central municipality of Tejeda, on the island of Gran Canaria, Roque Nublo is considered one of the biggest natural crags in the world. Of special significance to the islanders, this crag of volcanic origin stands at a height of 80 metres and is 1,813 metres above sea level. An ancient place of worship for the aborigines, it was declared a protected natural space in 1987 and a rural park seven years later. Its enormous presence is only surpassed by Pico de las Nieves (Snow peaks) which at 1,949 metres is the highest peak of Gran Canaria.

Caldera de Bandama

This crater to walk along is situated between the municipalities of Santa Brigida, Telde and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The seaward route through Caldera de Bandama goes between the ravines of Las Goteras and Guiniguada. This area of enormous natural richness was formed five thousand years ago along with the ancient volcano Pico de Bandama. The crater is 216 metres deep, 574 metres high and 1,000 metres wide. Along with its geological value the archaeological site of Cueva de los Canarios, which the ancient settlers used as a granary for storing harvests and food is of great interest.
