San Bartolo Mountain, in the eastern part of La Palma, is 439 metres above sea level and is a natural vantage point for contemplating the skies. It’s easy to get to by car, crossing through the town of Puntallana until you reach the San Bartolo chapel and up a short hill. With lots of parking available, the area has information panels for visitors, star charts and a sculpture depicting the local legend of The Lover's Leap. There are restaurants nearby offering local food and cakes.

In the centre of La Gomera, on the edge of the Garajonay National Park perimeter, is the Las Nieves recreation area. The San Borondón vantage point, in the west of La Palma on the coast of Tazacorte takes full advantage of a natural terrace over the Atlantic Ocean. From there, with the help of two information panels, you can observe the extraordinary skies of La Palma, the first island in the world to be named a Starlight Reserve for its light pollution control. Easy to get to on foot but with no parking facilities, there are also public services nearby in Tazacorte port.

Located in the Vega de San Mateo, just 21 kilómetros from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Roque Saucillo astronomic observatory is easy to get to by car as it is in the town with plenty of parking and nearby amenities. It has a modern astrographic camera telescope ideal for virtual educational use and a classroom for educational activities, workshops and exhibitions.

Set at the highest point of the island is one of the most privileged places on La Palma: Roque de los Muchachos. A balcony located at an altitude of 2,426 metres above sea level and deemed one of the best places in the world for stargazing. Unsurprisingly, this is the site of the Roque de los Muchachos Astrophysical Observatory, an important research centre that is open to the public during the day and by reservation, from which one can observe a spectacular panorama of La Palma’s characteristic sea of stars.

Situated in the north of Haría, the Peñas del Chache lookout is the main reference point when it comes to night sky watching on the island of Lanzarote. At a height of 670metres, the highest peak on the island and well away from light interference, Peñas del Chache can be reached easily by car. A parking area is provided.

In the centre of Fuerteventura lies the Tefía observatory, the main reference point for contemplating the skies in the island. There is a small refuge where you can stay the night if you reserve in advance. The refuge boasts an observatory dome and a telescope belonging to the Fuerteventura Astronomy Group - they meet here to view stars at least one Friday of every month.

Located in the central-western axis of the island of Fuerteventura, near the town of Betancuria, the Morro Velosa viewpoint allows you to enjoy some of the best features of the eastern skies of the Canary Islands. From Tegú Mountain, at 669 metres high, this natural platform offers fantastic views with virtually no light contamination and also has excellent parking facilities. If you are intent on serious astronomic viewing take warm clothes and food.
