This route is situated on the northwest coast of El Hierro. It starts at La Ermita de la Virgen de los Reyes. A long, not so steep ascent takes you on trails that run through open spaces on one side and green Mencafete on the other side.

Sabinosa

This trail starts in the village of Frontera and takes you on a climb through villages and green pine forests of the Mencafete zone. The trail has a steep descent to the village of Sabinosa. From here the trails become more technical and a steep climb up towards the tree of Sabinosa starts. From the Sabinosa tree lookout you have amazing sea views and magical light. The route then goes into more open landscape and ends in La Ermita de la Virgen de los Reyes. The variation of this route is challenging.

La Restinga

This route is situated in the most southern part of the island. Starting from the fishing village La Restinga, the trail follows the main road climbing up in an ascent through the area of El Pinar until arriving at the village Terencio. Passing volcanoes and technical trails this route has views of the ocean and is very green.

Orienteering map of Las Raíces

On a detour off the La Esperanza road to the majestic Mount Teide, we find this spectacular Canary Islands pine forest (northeast of Tenerife). Nearby is La Laguna (World Heritage Site) and the little town of La Esperanza, which has all the services a visitor may require. The Canary Islands pine is a conifer that is endemic to the islands and is unusually resistant to fire, in addition to its high scenic and ecological value.
