Climbing in Anaga

The longest, most traditional climbing routes in Tenerife are located in the north-east of the island, amongst the steep mountains and deep ravines of the Anaga Rural Park. This unique area of overwhelming natural beauty is home to rainforests and numerous rocks that bring together a hundred climbing paths. All of the routes are well equipped and have a maximum height of 250 metres. While some are suitable for intermediate levels others will challenge even the most experienced climbers.

Bodyboarding on the left hand wave of La Santa

The left hand wave of La Santa is considered one of the best waves in Europe to do bodyboarding. Situated in the fishing village of La Santa, on the northwest coast of the island of Lanzarote, it is usually frequented all year round by expert bodyboarders because of its consistent quality. It is easy to find and is even visible from the road, it is near some of the better known spots on the island which makes for a great surfing and sports atmosphere in the area.

Bodyboarding in La Machacona

La Machacona is loved for its impressive long, pristine tube and the high quality bodyboarding it offers. The left is a machine that generates powerful tubes, but the right can also be ridden. It is located on the south coast of the island of Tenerife, between El Médano and Los Abrigos. Although the spot is not visible from the road, the break is next to La Tejita beach, where there is a camping area which is easily accessible. There are no services nearby, but you can park in the area.

Bodyboarding in Punta Blanca

Punta Blanca is a bodyboarding spot located in the west of Tenerife, close to Guia de Isora. This is one of the most iconic waves of the island, both for its power and the unspoilt environment in which it is located. Recommended for riders of medium to expert level (especially on days with big waves), it's a short wave but it walls up and produces a powerful tube. This spot is ideal for extreme manoeuvres, has a great atmosphere and hosts several local surf competitions.

Bodyboarding in El Quemao

Opposite the fishing village of La Santa, in the northwest of the island of Lanzarote is one of the best waves, not only in the Canary Islands, but also worldwide - El Quemao. Known also as the Pipeline Canario, its fantastic reputation means that several restaurants and places to stay have opened up as well as schools and bodyboarding shops in which to buy and hire equipment. Entry into the water is easily accessed from the village harbour.

Bodyboarding at El Pico de La Laja

El Pico de la Laja spot is on the east coast of Gran Canaria close to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city. An explosive, powerful wave, it’s a favourite amongst local bodyboarders. Care is required if the waves are big because the break is shallow and it’s therefore an advanced wave. Parking close to the break is difficult but you can reach it by walking south along the Avenida Maritima walkway that connects La Laja beach to the city, or by walking north from the La Laja Mirador car park, via the beach.

Bodyboarding in la Baja del Ganado

On the northwest coast of La Graciosa, a small island to the north of the island of Lanzarote, is the bodyboarding spot, la Baja del Ganado. Situated very near Las Conchas beach, it is a very wild wave which takes you on onto the open sea and which has spectacular views of Alegranza islet. You get there by taking a dirt track northwards from Caleta de Sebo, the capital of the island. It is a spot for experts, but one with easy entry into the water, where you feel the strength of the Atlantic hitting a coastline surrounded by volcanoes.

Bodyboarding at El Frontón

The El Frontón spot on the north east coast of Gran Canaria is one of the world’s best bodyboarding breaks and was chosen by bodyboard pros as the fifth best wave in the world. Access is via the seaside village of Caleta de Arriba and through a labyrinth of banana plantations, followed by a steep but walkable cliff. You can park right by the break or walk in from nearby Agujero beach but caution is required due to the constant pounding surf in the area.

Bodyboarding at El Confital

The El Confital wave is regarded as the best right breaking wave in Europe for bodyboarders. It’s located just north of Las Canteras beach in the north east of Gran Canaria, making it an urban wave with easy access. Located in a pristine natural area with small sandy coves and a lava rock coastline, El Confital is connected to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by a busy pathway popular with surfers and sunset watchers.

The spot at El Burro has the most reliable and consistent conditions over the summer. It is a great spot and thanks to its specific wind and wave conditions it is perfect for water sports and also for those just beginning to surf, windsurf, bodyboard or kite surf. El Burro, with its long, sandy beach and volcanic rocks, is easily accessible and is located in the north-east of the island of Fuerteventura, just a few kilometres from the tourist resort of Corralejo. It is very easy to park alongside the road.
