Pescante de Hermigua

The need for fast communications and the technology of the Industrial Revolution in the northern municipalities of La Gomera necessitated the construction of davits to allow the entry and exit of goods and people by sea. These structures were built using stone and mortar for an iron arm that, supported on one or several foundations, remained over the sea where a ship could anchor to be stowed and a steam engine in charge of providing the necessary power to raise and lower people, merchandise and animals. There was also a warehouse and offices to manage the transit of goods and a conveyor that carried goods from the packing shops to the davit warehouse.

Arguamul

The hamlet of Arguamul was one of the most prosperous areas of the municipality of Vallehermoso until the end of the 18th century. All the small villages in the area were mainly dedicated to growing grain. Later it was also important for exporting tomatoes, which were shipped directly from Las Salinas to Los Órganos. It is the singularity of the different buildings that stands out rather than individual buildings and the beautiful La Gomera architectural style that they conserved. We can find communal wine presses and old brick ovens. It is one of the most isolated and remote hamlets in the island. In a way, this is what makes it special, being in a “wild” area that developed specific features in terms landscape and traditional practices.

In the winter, it turns into a green landscape and in the summer, it transforms into a large golden plain.
