The small houses that form this little village close to the island capital, sit on the slopes of the La Villa ravine and create an image that’s hard to equal. With just under 50 inhabitants, this isolated corner, though easy to get to, is a peaceful haven.

Located in the west of the island, the town of Los Llanos de Aridane is the economic capital of La Palma due to its prominence in the agricultural and tourism industries. The city stretches out from the Plaza de España; home to the church of Los Remedios and what are believed to be some of the oldest Indian laurel trees in the Canary Islands. Beyond lies the Plaza Chica with its carved stone fountain. At the top of town the picturesque Fernandez Taño and Calvo Sotelo streets are lined with traditional Canarian-style low houses.

You cannot travel to Gran Canaria and ignore its northwestern part, so beautiful and different from the golden beaches of the south. From the inland valley of Agaete to Tamadaba Natural Park, here is an ideal excursion by car to enjoy the rich historical centers and aboriginal remains, such as Agaete itself, Santa María de Guía, Gáldar, Moya or Artenara; villages with a great fishing, agricultural and livestock tradition, coastal towns ideal for a swim and excellent views of steep cliffs. If you are looking for a different day, just hop in the car.

The nature is very generous in the southwest of Gran Canaria, and the best way to check it out is to hit the accelerator. Driving from its warm and rugged coastline inland, between ravines and pine forests adorned by a sea of clouds, to its highest peaks, is the best way to admire its resounding beauty and striking contrasts.
