Björn Koreman: a prodigious athlete who trains in the Canary Islands

Years ago, if anyone had said that one day Björn Koreman would become a professional athlete running with the greats like Eliud Kipchohe, Joshua Cheptegei and Kenenisa Bekele, nobody would have believed it. Koreman caught the athletics bug when he was 21 years old, back when he still had a twenty-a-day habit and collected autographs from the runners who would one day be his teammates. Koreman, who was the fourth Dutchman to classify to represent his country at the Tokyo Olympics, says Tenerife is one of his favourite spots for competing because “it is a paradise for training”.

La Caleta

Considered one of the jewels of La Gomera, and one of the most beautiful beaches in the Canary Islands, this spot is located in the north of the island and lies within the municipality of Hermigua. Its calm waters and black sand have made it a favourite for of tourists and locals alike. Please note that the spot is ten minutes from the town centre, and visitors are asked to keep the facilities in perfect condition.

San Marcos Beach

Located in the charming town of Agulo, the beach of San Marcos has the characteristic black sand of La Gomera. There are strong waves in the area which makes swimming difficult. Visitors come for the great landscape, but the spot isn’t usually very crowded. Please note that, although there are a few services, toilets are not provided.
