Village of Tazacorte

Tazacorte has a one-of-a-kind museum in Europe dedicated to the banana, a fruit which has been awarded a PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status. But this north-western coastal town in La Palma is much more than simply a huge sea of bananas. The core of the town, the Charco neighbourhood, has a heritage of huge historic-artistic value, which can be seen in the stately homes dating from the 16th and 17th Centuries. Vegueta old town

Towards the south of Gran Canaria’s capital city, Vegueta was the original settlement that gave birth to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at the end of the 15th Century. Its streets and squares contain historical buildings such as the Casa de Colon mansion, Santa Ana cathedral, the Museo Canario museum, Gabinete Literario club, Casas Consistoriales and Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno gallery. The area around the market, built in 1856, is full of shops and over the road is the Triana shopping district.

Taganana

The hamlet of Taganana is the main population centre in the Anaga Rural Park. Situated in the southern part of this hugely important nature reserve, in the north-east of Tenerife, Taganana benefits from a beautiful surrounding landscape and gives a true flavour of Tenerife’s oldest villages. In fact, this was one of the first settlements founded by the Spanish conquerors. There are a number of items of great historical value, and two churches - Nuestra Señora de las Nieves and the Santa Catalina chapel – are listed buildings.

La Tosca

La Tosca is a hamlet situated near Barlovento, in the north of La Palma, with one very important peculiarity: it stands in the middle of a dragon tree forest, one of the largest collections of this native species of tree, unique to the Canary Islands. Home to just 20 people, they live surrounded by crops and by these enigmatic trees, which have attracted the attention of Europeans since way back in the Middle Ages, when countless legends were created about them.
