Approximately 20 minutes from the port where cruise liners arriving in Lanzarote berth, the Cactus Garden, in the municipality of Teguise, is well worth a visit. Easy to spot from the road thanks to the large metal cactus at the entrance, this original garden was the last work by the wonderful César Manrique on the island of his birth and another example of the union between art and nature that dominated his work. 35 minutes by car from the cruise liner, Timanfaya National Park whose incredible scenery (which transports us all to other planets such as Mars) is the product of the intense volcanic eruptions of 1730 and 1824, which buried this part of the island and created what is now known as Fire Mountain. Access to this area is controlled (you have to pay an admission fee) and you can only enter in a private vehicle or on foot to very limited areas.

In the north-west of the island of Lanzarote, barely half an hour from the port of Arrecife, there are 5 endless kilometres of golden sand, known as Famara Beach. The route starts in the south of the island of Tenerife, in the town of Vilaflor to be precise, at an altitude of almost 1,400 metres. After a tough climb of 1,100 metres, you reach La Degollada de Guajara, an area of spectacular views of El Teide and the island of La Gomera. From there it is a one kilometre descent to the Siete Cañadas, from where the route continues.

La Machacona is loved for its impressive long, pristine tube and the high quality bodyboarding it offers. The left is a machine that generates powerful tubes, but the right can also be ridden. It is located on the south coast of the island of Tenerife, between El Médano and Los Abrigos. Although the spot is not visible from the road, the break is next to La Tejita beach, where there is a camping area which is easily accessible. There are no services nearby, but you can park in the area.
