El Julan Viewpoint

El Julan lookout point opens to intoxicating panoramic views over the hillside, where we can appreciate its vertiginous slope, which advances in search of the cliff that kisses the Sea of Las Calmas. We observe incipient ravines and sparse vegetation, on a slope of young soils with the volcano field of La Restinga closing the view. It is comprised of piles of volcanic materials of intermediate age. The eruptive centers played an important mixed activity during the second interval of this series, in such a way that the products emitted superficially cover the entire slope, burying the primitive relief, which in some points outcrops in the form of islets, imprinting a particular morphology to the whole.

Museo Casa del Capitán

This building is over one hundred years old and located in the area of the historic district known as El Calvario. Used for many decades as a residence by the Alfonso family, it is a traditional Canarian house typical of the wealthier classes, with an interior courtyard, semi-basement with wine cellar, wine press and barns. One of the descendants of this family, born in the late eighteenth century, was the highest ranking military officer in the municipality during his time, which gave the building the name by which it is known today, the Captain's House. This building was restored by the City Council of San Miguel de Abona to become a museum after being damaged by a fire in 1978.
