Museo Casa del Capitán

This building is over one hundred years old and located in the area of the historic district known as El Calvario. Used for many decades as a residence by the Alfonso family, it is a traditional Canarian house typical of the wealthier classes, with an interior courtyard, semi-basement with wine cellar, wine press and barns. One of the descendants of this family, born in the late eighteenth century, was the highest ranking military officer in the municipality during his time, which gave the building the name by which it is known today, the Captain's House. This building was restored by the City Council of San Miguel de Abona to become a museum after being damaged by a fire in 1978.
