Pico de la Nieve is one of the highest peaks in the Caldera de Taburiente at 2,239 metres above sea level. The route that leads to its summit is one of the most popular among the thousands of mountaineers who come here year after year. You can get exceptional panoramic views of the entire park from the summit. This is a simple, short and easy route with little incline that takes about two hours to complete. It was very difficult to get to in the past, but now there is a road that leads to the Roque de los Muchachos and a small car park where hikers start the route at an altitude of almost 1,900 metres, making it much more accessible.

In the heart of Puerto del Carmen there is an area known as Grandes Playas (Big Beaches). This includes Playa Grande, Los Pocillos, and Matagorda. Los Pocillos beach, next to the busy Avenida de Las Playas, in Puerto del Carmen, is more than one kilometre long and has calm waters and golden sand. The surface has very little incline, so at high tide pools sometimes form on the beach.

Matagorda Beach is one of the main beaches of the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen, along with Grande Beach and Los Pocillos. Due to its vast extension (more than 800 meters) and the number of activities that can be carried out, it is a perfect place to spend the whole day with the children. In addition, around the beach you can find a multitude of services such as restaurants, cafes or terraces available on its famous promenade. It is also a good place for windsurfing, as it is a beach open to the sea where the wind usually blows almost every day of the year.

The Mirador del Barranco de Garome offers a panoramic view of the valley of the same name, which forms a natural border between Puntagorda and Tijarafe. The valley is surrounded by pine forests. The climb is not suitable for people who suffer from vertigo as it drops from 2,200 metres to ground level in just 10 kilometres. We really recommend going to watch the sunset where you can admire the incredible colours and hues that glisten off the sea in the distance. The viewpoint is on the LP-1 road, after the Tinizara neighbourhood in the north of the town, so you can reach it by car.

This is one of La Palma’s quintessential volcanic trails, perfect for mountain lovers. It runs along the entire ridge of the Caldera de Taburiente, starting at the Roque de los Muchachos and ending at the Pico de la Nieve, although different variations are possible, such as finishing at the Refugio del Pilar. It offers impressive views overlooking the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. You can admire the southern slope on one side and the northern slope on the other. Along the way, near the Pico de la Sabina, you can see a tagoror, a meeting place for the Auaritas, the first settlers of the island, as this area was of great importance for the them. The interesting pine trees with their original shapes are not to be missed along the way.

Los Brecitos viewpoint is an ideal place to view the Caldera de Taburiente National Park and the Pico Bejenao. It’s also the starting point for one of the most beautiful trails on La Palma, which leads to the Las Angustias valley. Please note that even though you can drive up to the viewpoint to take in the view, you can’t park, so you must use a taxi.

La Veta Beach is one of the most recognized and beautiful beaches of La Palma. It is known as a seasonal black sand beach, as it begins to form in spring and reaches its peak in summer, the best time to visit. The place is located at the foot of a steep 200-meter cliff – characteristic of the entire northwest coast of La Palma – and the water is usually crystal clear. Right next to the beach, there are numerous caves and huts that give the place a special charm.

Porís de Candelaria is one of the most magical and personal corners of La Palma. Hidden in the municipality of Tijarafe, it is a small fishing village that rises inside a natural cave about 50 meters high. Its characteristic white houses were built by the locals, who were searching for a respite from the oppressive summer heat. Today it is still inhabited by families who make it their second home, seeking to connect with the sea and getting away from the stress of everyday life. There is no internet, no restaurants and not even trash cans. This secluded spot can be reached on foot – about 10 kilometers round trip – by boat or by car (there is a parking lot just minutes away).

The Torre del Time viewpoint offers one of the most spectacular views of La Palma. You can see the vast Aridane valley covered with banana plantations and broken up by a deep ravine, Las Angustias, which leads to the charming Tazacorte port. On a very clear day you can see El Hierro. This watchtower stands at 700 metres on the LP-1 road, between the towns of Los Llanos de Aridane and Puntagorda. It’s the perfect place to refuel on the west side of La Palma.
