Valle Gran Rey Market

Located in Valle Gran Rey, the most popular tourist destination in La Gomera, on the west of the island, this market has been giving people the chance to purchase all manner of second hand goods in the Plaza Lomo de Riego, since 2007. It takes place on the second Sunday of every month, selling a variety of antiques, books and toys, and it’s never hard to find something of interest here. Increasingly popular, the market has added to the already huge appeal of the area, which also boasts one of the best beaches on the island, Playa del Inglés.

The Torre del Conde is a 15th century Castilian fortress located in the town of San Sebastián de La Gomera. It is a military type building. Its function was mainly to represent lordly power, and it counted on the lack of modern weaponry on the part of the natives. The tower has been the center of many pages belonging to the history of La Gomera and even of Spain.

Pescante de Hermigua

The need for fast communications and the technology of the Industrial Revolution in the northern municipalities of La Gomera necessitated the construction of davits to allow the entry and exit of goods and people by sea. These structures were built using stone and mortar for an iron arm that, supported on one or several foundations, remained over the sea where a ship could anchor to be stowed and a steam engine in charge of providing the necessary power to raise and lower people, merchandise and animals. There was also a warehouse and offices to manage the transit of goods and a conveyor that carried goods from the packing shops to the davit warehouse.

Pescante de Agulo

Built in 1908, the loading pier (pescante) was an industrial engineering structure designed for the transport of fruit and people. Supported by two concrete pillars, a wooden and metal arm extended out to connect with ships anchored off the coast of Agulo. A powerful storm surge destroyed the structure in the 1950s, leaving only the two concrete piers as evidence of its former presence.
