Travelling around the north of the island by car is one of the best ways to understand why La Palma is popularly known as the ‘Isla Bonita’. A peaceful route lasting a whole day, running for the most part through leafy inland areas where one can marvel at the spectacular local nature, as well as some stretches along the coast.

La Santa is a small fishing village in Lanzarote with the largest sports club on the island, where Olympic champions train. Beside it is an artificial beach 900 meters long, also called Ría de La Santa, perfect for beginners in windsurfing. It is a lake of fine white sand and calm waters, artificially closed. The absolute absence of waves and currents makes it an ideal place for children.

In the southeast of Tenerife is one of the most frequented surf spots by schools on the island: El Porís. The town has a small beach for bathers with a local atmosphere and, just a 15-minute walk along the coast, a larger beach with sandy ground and waves suitable for beginner surfers and children. The area has showers, parking space and easy access.

Famara Beach, in Lanzarote, is a paradise for those water sports lovers who want to get started in surfing and one of the favorite places for schools on the island. The characteristics of the waves and the sandy bottom make it an ideal place for beginners.

With its 2,250 meters of fine golden sand, surfing is a tradition in this natural area located in the heart of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Around the beach there are multiple surf schools for adults and children of all ages. Moreover, it is a very well equipped area with accommodation, stores and clubs for lovers of this sport, as well as those who want to get started in the sport.

Located in the south of Fuerteventura island, in Pájara, the Sicasumbre Lookout Point is an excellent place to observe the sky. With a parking area and information panels, it also has indications on the location of the star constellations, a sundial and a vertical clock. For the most experienced enthusiasts, the Sicasumbre Lookout Point has the necessary supports for visitors to install their own telescopes and cameras. Don’t forget warm clothes.

The Malpaís de La Arena Natural Monument is located in the center of the municipality of La Oliva. This beautiful Natural Monument arose approximately ten thousand years ago thanks to one of the last volcanic eruptions of the island of Fuerteventura. Since the origin of this gorgeous landscape of great beauty and strange shapes, it has been practically unchanged by human hands, and precisely because of this in Malpaís de La Arena you can find some of the best populations of tabaibas, tarabillas, gorse and lichens of the Canary archipelago. In Malpaís we can also see La Arena Volcano, which is 420 meters high and the highest point of this beautiful natural monument.

Los Volcanes Natural Park is located in the municipalities of Yaiza, Tías and Tinajo, though it is normally accessed through the latter; but it can also be entered from Yaiza. This Natural Park has an area of 10,158 hectares and offers a breathtaking landscape that has been the result of the last volcanic eruption of the island. It is a volcanic landscape with strange and interesting formations created by the solidification of lava. Vegetation in this area is very scarce, and is only present in the oldest lava solidification zones.

Los Silos is the perfect place to set a fairytale or legend. Surrounded by banana plantations, at the foot of the majestic Teno mountains and bathed in the strong swell of the Atlantic, lies this small farming village, unknown to many travellers. A place that still retains a flavour of authenticity, where mundane reality mixes with the legends and tales of today and the past. It is famous for the annual Los Silos International Storytelling Festival.
