Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Tenerife

On the occasion of the official visit of Pope Leo XIV to Tenerife, special mobility and security measures will be in place at various points across the island on Friday, 12 June.

Most tourist services, accommodation, restaurants, shops and activities will continue to operate as normal. However, temporary traffic restrictions and increased numbers of people are expected in certain areas.

⚠️ If you plan to travel between Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife North Airport or Teide National Park, we recommend allowing more time than usual for your journeys.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna

Several events will take place in the La Laguna area during the morning.

The main disruptions will be concentrated in:

  • Plaza del Cristo.
  • Historic centre of La Laguna.
  • Area around the Bishop’s Palace.
  • Access routes from the TF-13.
  • Roads close to Tenerife North Airport.

Temporary traffic restrictions, access controls and parking limitations may be in place at various points in the historic centre.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife

From mid-morning, a route will take place through different parts of the city, followed by a large public event in the port area.

The areas where the greatest disruption is expected are:

  • Avenida La Salle.
  • Méndez Núñez.
  • Calle del Pilar.
  • Villalba Hervás.
  • Plaza de España.
  • Avenida Marítima.
  • Area around the Tenerife Auditorium.
  • Port area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

A high number of people is expected throughout much of the day.

If you plan to visit Teide National Park on 12 June and then travel towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna or Tenerife North Airport, we recommend planning your journey in advance.

Temporary disruptions may occur on some access routes to the metropolitan area during the morning. Before setting off, please check the latest road conditions and allow for possible delays.

The airport will remain operational throughout the day.

If you are due to take a flight, we recommend setting off earlier than usual and checking traffic conditions in advance.
