(CACT) Mirador del Río

The best view of the island of La Graciosa

El Río viewpoint, in the north of Lanzarote, is a work of art located at the top of an imposing cliff. Standing at the wide railing and looking northwards, three small islets can be seen - the Chinijo archipelago - separated from Lanzarote by the strait from which the viewpoint takes its name. The biggest of the islets is La Graciosa, which boasts perfect volcanic cones and a melting pot of ochres and beiges. The combination of islets, sea, sky and sheer depth of the cliff transmits amplitude and freedom.

A viewpoint designed by César Manrique in Haria

The building was designed by the most famous architect from the Canary Islands, César Manrique, who integrated it perfectly in its volcanic surroundings. The interior embraces you with its almost organic curved shapes and surprises by its excellent use of light. Visitors have at hand information panels, telescopes and areas to relax outside. The café serves hot drinks and tropical fruit juices which can be better enjoyed next to the enormous picture windows overlooking the cliff.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Respect and look after the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, binoculars and telescopes, etc.).
  • Respect the signposting along trails. Leaving the set paths and spaces causes damage to the environment and could also be dangerous for you and anyone with you.
  • Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.).
