Las Playas Viewpoint

Views of the Las Playas bay

The viewpoint in Las Playas is the perfect place to feel the tingling sensation that runs through the body when approaching a cliff. Just a 20-minute drive away from Valverde, this platform is perched on the top of a natural amphitheatre, four kilometres in diameter, whose slopes descend sometimes heights of up to 1,500 metres as they reach the sea. At its base, facing the ocean, there is a beautiful almost undeveloped semi-circular bay, with beaches fringed by the white of the waves. All found in the heart of El Hierro a designated Unesco Biosphere Reserve.

Discover the rock of La Bonanza

When once the initial tingling feeling subsides, you start to make out the hidden landmarks of this landscape: the Parador de El Hierro, the rock of La Bonanza and the islands of La Gomera and Tenerife. This area is sometimes foggy, but rather than leaving simply wait for the fog to clear, when the landmarks become visible again. After enjoying the spectacular views, take advantage of the viewpoint’s wonderful location and head to the nearby town of San Andrés to try some delicious traditional cuisine.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Respect and look after the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, binoculars and telescopes, etc.).
  • Respect the signposting along trails. Leaving the set paths and spaces causes damage to the environment and could also be dangerous for you and anyone with you.
  • Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.).
