Arguamul

An 18th century hamlet

The hamlet of Arguamul was one of the most prosperous areas of the municipality of Vallehermoso until the end of the 18th century. All the small villages in the area were mainly dedicated to growing grain. Later it was also important for exporting tomatoes, which were shipped directly from Las Salinas to Los Organos. It is the singularity of the different buildings that stands out rather than individual buildings and the beautiful La Gomera architectural style that they conserved. We can find communal wine presses and old brick ovens. It is one of the most isolated and remote hamlets in the island. In a way, this is what makes it special, being in a “wild” area that developed specific features in terms landscape and traditional practices.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
