Telde

Discover the oldest town in Gran Canaria
As well as its more than 100 archaeological sites, remains of its pre-Hispanic past, Telde in the southeast of Gran Canaria, has a wealth of heritage in religious altarpieces and pretty brightly painted colonial houses with rows of balconies as well as charming narrow cobbled streets. The heart of the oldest town on the island is full of small kingdoms with its own churches and squares under the shade of impressive trees. This is historical Telde which has a surprise waiting in every corner.
Visit John the Baptist Church and León y Castillo museum
Telde’s beauty resides in its neighbourhoods, that of Saint John, its patron saint, is small and stately, its elegance coming from its noble houses, its squares and the splendid Flemish altarpiece in the church of Saint John the Baptist. After a visit to León y Castillo house museum and the church of Saint Peter Martyr (San Pedro Mártir), we come across Saint Francis. Tranquil and picturesque, we encounter much beauty in Altozano Street, in the aborigine caves of Baladero or in the hundred year old aqueduct named in honour of Saint Francis, the symbol of the city. To finish up we have Saint Gregory with Our Lady of Sorrows.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
