The smallest village in El Hierro

Tiñor is the smallest village in the smallest Canarian Island, located in the north-east of El Hierro. This hamlet has a particularly special charm, thanks to its delightful traditional homes, made with a base of black volcanic rock and flat, English-style roof tiles. The white walls of many of the houses contrast with the greens of the surrounding countryside. Hidden behind the hills, just a few kilometres from the island capital, Tiñor is a tiny jewel that is well worth getting to know.

The Descent of the Virgen de los Reyes, one of the most important processions of the Canarian archipelago, passes through Tiñor. To arrive at the small hamlet you have to leave the main road from Valverde to San Andrés and El Pinar, but it really is worth it to discover this village of picture-postcard beauty. The best way to appreciate it is to park your car and take a walk through its streets, enjoying the purity of a completely rural setting – and don't forget your camera.

Sustainability

- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
