Cumbre Vieja Natural Park

An awe-inspiring landscape

The Cumbre Vieja National Park extends from the centre to the south of La Palma. Here you can see some of the oldest, prehistoric lava flows to the most recent, including the eruption of the Teneguía volcano in 1971. Some of the volcanoes in the Cumbre Vieja National Park are home to a diverse range of protected plant and animal species. The pine trees that occupy a fair part of the park contrast well with the dark colour of the volcanic earth to create a magnificent landscape.

Walk among La Palma's volcanoes

The best way to get to understand La Palma’s volcanic activity and to discover the nature of Cumbre Vieja National Park is via a walking route through the park, from north to south. This is known as the 'volcanic route' and takes in all the important volcanic cones. The route also provides you with some unique views of La Palma, Tenerife and La Gomera.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not walk in areas where it is not allowed and respect the signposting along trails. Leaving the set paths causes damage to the environment and could also be dangerous for you and anyone with you.
- Do not light fires outside the permitted areas and be especially careful during the summer months.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.).
