Parque Rural de Doramas

The forest of Doramas

Located in the north of Gran Canaria, this beautiful rural park of great ecological and scenic value is named after the 15th century aboriginal warrior, well-known for his bravery. Within this park, which covers more than 3,500 hectares of protected land, are located the Nature Reserves of Barranco Oscuro, Los Tiles de Moya and Azuaje, where several of the best preserved laurel forests in the Canary Islands remain. There are also other places of interest such as La Finca de Osorio (Osorio Estate) or the Cueva de Barreto (Barreto Cave).

Ideal spot for nature lovers

This protected area has an extensive network of trails running through its most emblematic areas. Its rugged terrain reaches heights of between 600 and 1,000 metres, dotted with numerous ravines and volcanic cones. It has an ecosystem with many unique species of flora and fauna. There are some 400 species of plants, 30 of which are endemic to Gran Canaria. Of the 49 species of vertebrate fauna, the woodpecker, the Canary Island long-eared owl and the Canary Island buzzard, all of which are endemic to the Canary Islands, are of particular interest. There are also reptiles such as the Gran Canaria lizard.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not walk in areas where it is not allowed and respect the signposting along trails. Leaving the set paths causes damage to the environment and could also be dangerous for you and anyone with you.
- Do not light fires outside the permitted areas and be especially careful during the summer months.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.).
