Silk Museum

Maintaining the silk tradition alive with spinning workshops

In the centre of La Palma, in El Paso, you will find the Silk Museum. Here the tradition of silk and silk weaving is kept well and truly alive, from the rearing of the silkworms to spinning and embroidery. Located in a delightful historic building in the city, the museum also houses the Thread-Spinners Workshop, where visitors can get to know first-hand how these craft workers follow a traditional process that has disappeared in the rest of Europe.

The art of silk in La Palma

In this museum the public gets to observe in minute detail how a material as delicate as La Palma silk is created, which needs the collaboration of several specialists to create the final product. The old looms, which still work today, create genuine works of art that can be purchased in the museum shop. This jewel in the crown of La Palma’s traditions is open from Monday to Friday.
