Museo del Plátano

The banana is the king of La Palma

The Banana Museum opened in 2004 in Tazacorte, a very sunny town, known as being the place in the Canary Islands with the most daylight hours. The museum’s design is unusual. It consists of a Canarian house with two floors: on the top floor there are information panels, photographs and work tools that explain the history of bananas and their impact on society as well as information related to the cultivation and export of the fruit. On the ground floor there is an assembly hall for exhibitions or conferences and a shop. In the shop you can buy bananas, liqueurs and other decorative and edible items with a banana theme.

From Tazacorte to the world

On the way out from the museum, in the gardens of the Banana Museum Square, you can discover the different types of banana trees that exist in the world. After that you can walk through the El Charco area. This municipality is one of the main production centres for bananas with the 60,000 tons of the fruit exported each year.
