Centro de Interpretación del Sitio Etnológico Salinas Punta de Tenefé

An ethnological museum in Gran Canaria

The ethnological site, Las Salinas de Tenefé, was recognized by UNESCO as an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2005. Originally built at the end of the 18th century, today this 20,000 metre squared complex offers exhibitions in the house-office of old salt workers. There are all kinds of resources on offer for visitors to learn more about salt’s history, composition, anthropological significance, and importance to the human body.

Las Salinas de los Tres Molinos (The Salt Flats of the Three Mills)

The former house of the salt manufacturer is located in Punta Tenefé de Pozo Izquierdo, next to the El Saladar Maritime Park. This location is focused on marine research, and there is very little parking in the vicinity, so visitors are asked to park in El Arenal and walk through the Tenefé Cultural Park. Opening hours run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but visits must be arranged with the Department of Historical Cultural Heritage of the Santa Lucía City Council (928759706). Brochures are available in Spanish, English, French, German, Portuguese, and Braille. In these short documents you can find out more about the three mills that generated the local salt production.
