MTB Route in the southeast of Gran Canaria

50 kilometres along dirt tracks with demanding inclines

From the tourist resort of Meloneras to the municipality of Agüimes with its wonderful ravines, this 50 kilometre bike route along the southeast of Gran Canaria promises contrasts, coastal beauty and interior landscapes. After leaving the coast you must climb along dirt tracks which lead to Arteara and continue along demanding slopes to the lovely town of Fataga, which is ideal as a stop off point to stock up on liquids. The route continues on a difficult stretch, which goes along the top of the Fataga valley and near the volcano fields of Rosiana.

Cycle from Agüimes on road and sand tracks

From the volcano fields of Rosiana to Santa Lucía de Tirajana, where strength can be regained, is a road descent. Then, another road takes you to the dam at La Sorrueda, one of the most important natural reserves in Spain, full of beautiful palm trees. This road is left behind as you cycle along the archaeological site at the fort of Ansite. On the stretch which goes from Barranquillo de Sardina, the cyclist takes to the tarred lanes again. Now all that is left is the final effort up several slopes to Agüimes.
