The descent of the gofio

The last Saturday of September takes place in Agüimes a very fun popular party known as the 'Brought of the gofio and water'. This tradition recreates an ancient custom of the postwar period where neighbors walked to the outskirts of the town to toast and grind the millo. Once they got the gofio, They returned to the village with the sacks in tow as they collected water from the fountains and ditches. Today, the same road is done, but with a lively music band to the square of Our Lady of the Rosary. Arriving at the village, Buckets of water are thrown from the rooftops and balconies of the houses, turning the stage into a bath of water and gofio. The party continues with a big party in the square.
