Ánimas, the Nine Nights of the Parida

Ánimas, the Nine Nights of the Parida is a theatrical recreation that revives an ancient Canarian tradition from the 18th and 19th centuries: the parida wakes. For nine nights, family, friends, and neighbors accompanied the mother and the newborn until the baptism, creating a network of protection and care against the beliefs and fears of the time.

In collaboration with the Instituto Canario de las Tradiciones (ICT) and the Asociación Dragos y Laurel of the Villa de Moya, this event invites you to discover a lesser-known part of the intangible cultural heritage of the Canary Islands and to recognize the value of neighborly solidarity, love, and fraternity.
