Advanced dive to the sunken Zorro 33 hin Gran Canaria
The wreck of the DC-3 called Zorro 33 dates back to 1971 and is off the southeast coast of Gran Canaria close to the island’s airport. It’s a highly attractive dive site for advanced divers. The plane broke into three parts when it crashed and these are now covered in marine life, such as sea slugs, and surrounded by eagle rays and huge schools of white trevally. Combined with the visual impact of the plane lying in 29 metres of water they make for a memorable dive.
Underwater expedition to the C-47 military transport aircraft at Playa de Vargas
Anchorage is in front of Vargas beach some 6.5 nautical miles from the starting point at Taliarte harbour. The El Zorro 33, a two motor DC-3 converted to C-47, sits in 29 metres of water on a wide bed of pale coloured sand. Your guide will be able to advise on the best time to avoid the strong currents in the area. Use of Nitrox allows for a longer exploration period at the site.
