Bodyboarding on the left hand wave of La Santa

One of the best waves in Europe to do bodyboarding

The left hand wave of La Santa is considered one of the best waves in Europe to do bodyboarding. Situated in the fishing village of La Santa, on the northwest coast of the island of Lanzarote, it is usually frequented all year round by expert bodyboarders because of its consistent quality. It is easy to find and is even visible from the road, it is near some of the better known spots on the island which makes for a great surfing and sports atmosphere in the area.

A spot suitable only for experts in Lanzarote

The left hand wave of La Santa is, in reality a split wave which breaks both left and right. The right is bodyboarders’ favourite as it is faster and hollow and has a vertical wall and a short wave ride. These big waves require expertise and to be equipped with scuba boots and wetsuits in case you hit the bottom of the volcanic reef, which is rather shallow. The perfect conditions are at medium tide, with a S-SW-SE-E wind and a N-NE-NW-W swell and between the months of September and May.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
