Playa Jardín beach

Tenerife’s César Manrique-designed beach

You will find Playa Jardín beach in the tourist town of Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of Tenerife. This is one of the most famous beaches in the region, and was designed in the 1990s by the famous Canarian artist, César Manrique, created to guarantee rest and relaxation for its visitors. Even just getting to the beach, via gardens full of local plants with pathways that take you between stone walls and waterfalls is the perfect way to start a thoroughly relaxing day on a beach that offers all the services you need and incredible views of Mount Teide.

Three urban coves with black sand in Puerto de la Cruz

Playa Jardín beach is an urban black sand beach divided into three sections, Castillo beach, Charcón beach and Punta Brava beach. There is a lateral breakwater to protect bathers from high waves but there are still open areas for those wanting to surf. The promenade connects the beach with gardens, children’s playgrounds, terraces and cafeterias and a stage where concerts frequently take place. Additionally there is sunbed and parasol hire, showers, changing rooms and access for those with reduced mobility.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
  • Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
  • Try to use ocean-friendly sun creams.
  • Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
  • Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
