Playa de San Marcos

The jewel in the crown of Icod de los Vinos

In San Marcos, a town belonging to the municipality of Icod de los Vinos, the black sand, stones and sea mist create a wonderful impression for visitors. San Marcos beach is 160 metres long. This spot has a family atmosphere and is popular during the summer months. You can understand why. It’s surrounded by greenery, with shops and restaurants to discover and apartments to stay in. The sheltered location of the beach, the pier and the cliff make it safe to swim despite the currents in the north coast of Tenerife.

Everything you need to shake off boredom

Under the reassuring eye of the Red Cross rescue services, the beach has toilets, showers, a rental service for hammocks, paddle surf boards and canoes. Nearby restaurants have sea views and access to the adjoining promenade. An artificial platform on the coast is great for people who want to swim, jump in the water or just relax and sunbathe. Access to the beach is easy. You can walk there, take public transport or drive. Signs are straightforward to follow from Icod. The route ends with a parking area of approximately 50 spaces.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
- Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
