A three in one: a beautiful black beach with two separate pools

Mesa del Mar is an interesting spot for any family traveling on holiday to Tacoronte, in the northwest of Tenerife. This is the case firstly because it is part of the Protected Landscape of Costa Acentejo. The archaeological zone is, in fact, declared a Site of Cultural Interest due to its Guanche remains. The second reason why families should visit is because of La Arena beach which is 350 metres long and 30 metres wide and has one swimming pool available only in summer and another available throughout the year.

Perfect tourist facilities

La Arena beach is accessed by a mountain road and then a small tunnel. The area has many parking spaces. After enjoying sunbathing and swims, visitors can make use of the convenient toilets and showers. After a refreshing cool off you can go for a walk in the neighbourhood which enjoys lots of restaurants, a notable pier, and the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

Sustainability

- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
- Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
