The main beach on La Graciosa

La Graciosa, next to Lanzarote, is the least populated of the Canary Islands. A real treasure hidden away in the northeast, you cannot but go to a pearl like Las Conchas. Even though you have to go on foot, it takes about 45 minutes from the main town or by bike, about 20 minutes, getting to this pale sandy beach and enjoying its ever changing ocean blue is something your senses will be forever grateful for. You could even hire a 4x4, the only vehicle allowed. It isn’t how you get there, it’s getting there.

After a pleasant walk from Caleta de Sebo, lazing on the warm sand and bathing, naked or not, are real pleasures. The walk is on easy semi desert terrain. The permanent sun makes bathing a priority but remember to be careful with the swell of the waves and the currents. Its views of the islets of Alegranza and Montaña Clara, the shells which give it its name, the solitude, purity and feeling of freedom make you want to go back the very next day.

Sustainability

- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
- Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
