Santa Catalina Beach

A beach in a bay

Located in a bay in the Hermigua Valley, in the north of La Gomera, this beach is one of the best known in the area. It has fine black sand of volcanic origin. The waves are moderate but still only suitable for experienced swimmers. For those who love comfort, this beach has numerous services including sun umbrellas, hammocks, showers, telephones, and a 50-space car park.

Unique sunsets from the sand

One of the big claims to fame of this beach are the sunsets, which bring magnificent colours to the whole local area. Around the beach you’ll find small houses and palm trees. Big local waves mean this site is a meeting point for lovers of windsurfing and surfing.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
- Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
