La Cantera Beach

A beach you can get to by boat

This beach is barely 300 metres long and 20 metres wide. It’s one of the most inaccessible spots on the quiet island of La Gomera. Located in the municipality of Alajeró, it can only be accessed by boat or on foot. The closest road is the GM-2. The calm waters and paradisiacal atmosphere make it a perfect place for those who seek tranquility.

An abandoned factory

For many years, La Cantera beach was known for hosting one of the most important canned tuna factories in La Gomera. Founded in the 19th century, it belonged to the family of Mario Novado. Visitors to Playa de La Cantera will find the factory still standing.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
- Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
