La Cilla Viewpoint

Lookout point within an Artenara cave

This viewpoint is within the popular La Cilla restaurant with its cave terrace looking out on the central highlands of Gran Canaria. The landscapes here, crowned by the iconic Roque Nublo and Bentayga rocks, are part of the Unesco Biosphere Reserve. La Cilla is carved from the rock inside a cliff in Artenara, a town famous for its cave houses. Entry is via a 50 metre tunnel cut into the rock.

The La Cilla dining area is open and cool with wooden and stone features and bright colours. Although you don’t have to eat at the restaurant to enjoy the view we recommend booking one of the 150 seats on the cave terrace in advance: Then you know you’ll be able to try local specialities such as grilled goat kid, Canarian wine and a slice of traditional Artenara almond cake.

- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Respect and look after the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, binoculars and telescopes, etc.).
- Respect the signposting along trails. Leaving the set paths and spaces causes damage to the environment and could also be dangerous for you and anyone with you.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.).
