The story of rum in San Andrés y Sauces

In the museum Trapiche El Melonar you can learn about the history of sugar cane and the history of families that grew up in the trade in La Palma. To this day traditional recipes are followed. This means distilling the juice of the freshly pressed cane in the copper still over the fire.

A pleasant morning of tasting

For visitors to the museum a video is available as well as multilingual guides that show how they make rum in the distillery. The story covers the planting of the sugar cane, the press, and the alembic (a special distilling apparatus). At the end of the tour you can taste the rum or buy a bottle in the adjoining museum. Visits to the museum require prior booking on the website. Entrance costs five euros per person. There is access for people with reduced mobility for a limited section of the museum.
