You arrive on La Gomera after celebrating your big day. So far so good: you have just discovered one of the most heavenly and fantastic places in southern Europe, along with the other Canary Islands. Immense valleys and steep cliffs that seem to be carved for diving into the ocean; roads that skirt eroded mountains; fairytale villages with narrow streets and colorful houses; banana plantations and terraced crops; an infinite invasion of vegetation; huge palm trees that grow in dizzying gullies; hidden beaches between rocky walls, with tumultuous waves that crash and leave white foam on the sand; leafy forests that crown the center of the island...so many natural contrasting details wherever you look, bright greens, emerald blues, luminous yellows and whites...all accompanied by the continuous song of the birds and a halo of mystery. This is one of the smallest of the eight islands of the Canary archipelago, with only 369 km² of volcanic mountains sculpted by erosion. La Gomera is a diamond in the rough. Here we propose 5 dream locations where you can take the best romantic pictures.

A full-blown crush that will offer you a magical setting in which to immortalize the best moment of your lives. You cannot miss one of the itineraries in Garajonay National Park: the short, easy walk through Raso de la Bruma, where an intact nature will be your backdrop. Certainly worthy of the best love movies. Huge, centuries-old trees with their tortuous shapes covered with moss, spider webs covered with shimmering dewy pearls, ferns that cover the ground as if it were a natural carpet, and a thick fog that creeps in between the branches, especially in the morning, which only the most powerful sunrays manage to pierce. Mind you, it is as good for black and white photos as for color. What more could you ask for?

The jewel of the island. An area of 40 km² that covers 10% of the surface of La Gomera and has been catalogued as a Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 1986. A unique ecosystem where a prehistoric forest covers the island’s highlands with its green branches. The endemic laurel forest, represents most of the park and dates back to the Tertiary era. Identical to the forests of Europe or North Africa millions of years ago, the laurel forest is still one of the rare remnants plants from the past. The millennial trees are preserved thanks to the absence of volcanic eruption during two million years and a particularly favorable climate for this vegetation. If the coasts of La Gomera are more arid, the center of the island is swept by the trade winds.  Winds that blow a sea of clouds, a fog that allows the phenomenon known as “horizontal rain”, which makes it possible for the plant species of this lush and magical forest to hold on to their leaves throughout the year. Laurels, but also many other species, such as giant ferns, as well as mosses and lichens. In total there are at least 2000 species of plants, many endemic to the Canary Islands, preserved thanks to the high humidity and warm temperatures. A paradise for birds whose song captivates visitors. Besides recommending that you enjoy this environment full of romanticism and mysticism, you can also immortalize your love there and trap it forever.

A life ahead, without limit, like the horizon that stretches out before your eyes. Located almost in the center of La Gomera, the Alto de Garajonay is its highest point: 1487 meters above sea level. There is a lookout point, which can be reached after an easy and romantic walk and which offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the whole island. There is no doubt that this is the best location to achieve a backdrop in which the brilliant green of the leafy local nature and the powerful blues of the sea and sky come together. In addition to this idyllic panorama, the island of Tenerife with its imposing Teide or El Hierro and La Palma volcano are also present.

The first inhabitants of the island considered the Chipude Fortress, one of the most striking landscape landmarks of La Gomera, to be a sacred mountain, halfway between earth and heaven. When we appreciate how this place dominates the landscape, we understand why it was considered a natural fortress: vertical, vertiginous, impassable rock walls and a rocky plateau rising to 1243 meters above sea level occupy the space. This magical mountain offers an extraordinary view of the entire territory of La Gomera, after a somewhat difficult ascent of 700 meters and so only recommended for people in good physical condition and accustomed to hiking. But once you reach the top, after enjoying the environment and the clean air of this place, you can take the best selfies with La Gomera at your feet.
