The Guanche Ceremony of Candelaria, held every August 14th during the Festivities in honor of Our Lady of Candelaria, is one of the oldest and most significant representations in the Canary Islands. This event reenacts the discovery of the image of the Virgin of Candelaria by two Guanche shepherds, who find a figure of a woman holding a child on a rock. Despite several failed attempts at communication and encountering miraculous phenomena, the shepherds take the image to the mencey of Güímar, who decides to move it to a sacred cave, miraculously healing the shepherds in the process. The ceremony culminates with a nighttime procession to El Pozo and the return of the Virgin to the Basilica, accompanied by music and devotion from the attendees
