Sor Juana

The Teatro Guiniguada presents Sor Juana, a production by Cía. Gaviera that explores the life and legacy of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, one of the most influential female figures of the Spanish Golden Age. As part of the 2025 Contemporary Theater Series, the play blends reality, literature, and fiction to unveil the inner and outer world of the Mexican writer, addressing her struggle for knowledge, censorship, and social oppression. With a stage design inspired by Surrealism and artists such as Leonor Fini and María de Zayas, this production offers a fresh and relevant perspective on a woman ahead of her time.
