A deep wreck accessible from the shore in Tenerife
The small town of Tabaiba is the ideal place for a wreck dive, just a short swim away from the coast. The wreck in Tabaiba is 35 metres long and is called the 'El Peñon': it was sunk as an artificial reef on the north-east coast of Tenerife in 2006 to enrich the marine life of the area and to promote scuba diving. The boat is heeled thirty degrees to starboard at a maximum depth of 32 metres. Inside the wreck are live polyps, octopus and some large moray eels, famous amongst divers.
Nitrogen dives close to Tabaiba
This moderately difficult dive - due to the water depth - allows divers with some experience in wrecks to refine their technique. It is also an ideal place to dive with a nitrogen mixture meaning that more time can be spent looking at the inhabitants of this recently created wreck. The journey to and from the boat has no major attractions, but large shoals of damselfish can sometimes surprise divers. Friendly trumpet fish, large schools of barracudas, mackerel and amberjack can be seen circling around the wreck.
