Windsurfing in Las Cucharas

Windsurfing for all levels of expertise in Costa Teguise

Las Cucharas is a spot situated in Costa Teguise, in the east of Lanzarote. It is ideal for all levels of expertise because the bay itself combines calm places ideal for beginners with breakers which more experienced windsurfers love. Entry and exit to and from the water is easy despite the volcanic rock bottom. Besides, it is situated in one of the most popular tourist resorts on the island, which means it has accommodation, restaurants and other amenities in the surrounding area.

A windsurfing spot on the world WPA windsurfing tour

The wave at Las Cucharas, a left hand wave, breaks on a reef outside the bay and is a short wave with a hollow wall. Although it can be ridden all year round, the most consistent winds are between the months of May and August. The best winds in Las Cucharas are the northeast side-shore. This spot also hosts one of the Freestyle events on the world PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association) windsurfing tour.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
