Llano de las Ventas Astronomical Lookout Point

Aimed at the Pole Star
The Llano de Las Ventas Astronomical Lookout Point is located in the Breña Baja municipality. From its height of approximately 1,320 metres, you can savour a magnificent panoramic view of La Palma’s eastern coast. As well as various information panels, this lookout point features a gauge pointing to the Pole Star, a planisphere where you can locate the main circumpolar constellations.
A network of 16 astronomical lookout points
La Palma is recognized as a Starlight Destination, known for having one of the cleanest skies in the world. It has a network of 16 astronomical lookout points, forming a route on which you can see the solar system from different vantage points and enjoy stargazing. These night excursions are very successful; expert guides can show you the stars as they’re rarely seen. The island is a frontrunner in the Law of Sky and the Law of Astronomical Protection of the Observatories of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands. This astro-experience entails stargazing from a house in the countryside with an astronomical tour and a visit to the La Palma Astrophysics Institute or an astrophotography tour.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Respect and look after the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, binoculars and telescopes, etc.).
- Respect the signposting along trails. Leaving the set paths and spaces causes damage to the environment and could also be dangerous for you and anyone with you.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.).
