A really charming, traditional hamlet
The picturesque village of El Mocanal, surrounded by pastures and crops, is in the north of El Hierro. This traditional hamlet is very close to El Pozo de las Calcosas, a bathing area with spectacular natural pools, perfect for cooling off with a quick dip in the crystal-clear water. It is also famous for the ‘carpets’ hand-created out of natural materials such as flowers, sand and dyed salt that cover the streets for Corpus Christi, which attracts a large number of visitors every year. A beautiful place that captivates anyone looking for peace and quiet and who enjoys the unique beauty of this charming hamlet and the surrounding landscape.
Somewhere to appreciate the passage of time
El Mocanal is somewhere that is passed through by all the tourists who visit the Valle del Golfo through the Los Roquillos tunnel. The farming atmosphere lends it a very special charm, with areas that still retain the traditional architecture, and little, narrow streets and squares that show the slow passage of time. We recommend making the most of your trip and visiting the historic San Pedro Church, built in the 15th century. This pretty village on El Hierro maintains its traditions intact, which is part of the special originality that has always characterised it.
