A trek from the sea to the mountains in La Gomera
Located in the municipality of Valle Gran Rey, in the southwest of the island of La Gomera, this trek goes along one of the traditional paths which for centuries were used as a link between the coastal towns and the villages in the countryside and mountain areas. Its route through the ravine takes us to a beautiful palm grove which borders allotments of crops in one of the most unique rural images throughout the archipelago.
Palm trees, tree houseleeks and Kleenia Nerifolia in a spectacular ravine
At eight kilometres long and with a notable incline above 1,000 metres, this hike from Valle Gran Rey is highly difficult. Remember to take suitable equipment and footwear to face this three hour walk along a route that combines paths, cobbled stones, roads and dirt track. But it is well worth the effort; the lower bed of the ravine goes deep into palm trees and reed beds along with allotments and traditional houses; and the upper part which is full of rocks has native species like the tree houseleek and Kleenia Nerifolia. Among the fauna, the bird Berthelot’s Pîpit stands out.
