A hike with notable inclines

Situated in the north, between the municipalities of Valverde and La Frontera, this trekking route along Camino de Jinama goes up the cliff which resulted from three major landslides that shaped the island of El Hierro. The path is divided in two very different stages; from the outset at La Candelaria Church to the Hermitage of La Caridad, the incline is very sharp due to the cliff, while the stretch from the hermitage to San Andrés is almost flat and goes through grazing land.

An old connecting route for travellers and farmers

At eight kilometres long and with an incline of 885 metres, the royal route of Jinama goes along the main historic access to El Golfo, which was a key path before the building of the road in the 60s. Besides its geological values, the pathway is of great botanical interest as it goes through the biggest area of green hills in El Hierro. A highly difficult hike due to the sharp incline, it can be done in three hours along cobbled paths, trails and tracks. Suitable trekking clothing and footwear must be worn.
