One of the largest volcanic tubes in the world
The largest volcanic tube in the European Union can be found right here in Tenerife. It’s the ‘Cueva del Viento’ or Wind Cave, and you can visit it! Walking towards the centre of the earth as if you were reliving a Jules Verne novel is a completely unique experience. The cave is formed by a labyrinth of underground passages on three levels, where visitors can admire the geomorphic beauty. The 18 kilometre-long tunnel make this one of the longest tubes in the world according to speleologists.
Potholing in Tenerife
The Wind Cave is situated in Icod de los Vinos, in the north of Tenerife. There’s a visitors centre where information panels explain in detail the extraordinary characteristics of the caves. Those wanting to visit the caves, which is a two-hour tour, are recommended to make a prior reservation, and must bear in mind that potholing requires long trousers and suitable footwear. There are special prices for children, but it’s worth noting that children under five years of age are not allowed to enter.

For the latest available information about opening hours, reservations, locations and contact details, see the official website.
