Acis and Galatea: International Bach Festival

The Teatro Pérez Galdós presents "Acis and Galatea", the definitive version completed by Handel in 1732 based on the classic myth of love and jealousy. In this stage production, with set design by Carlos Santos, the action is relocated to a contemporary setting where the interruption of a wedding by a jealous former suitor triggers the tragedy. The work delves into the transformation of Polyphemus—from fearsome monster to wounded lover—and into Galatea’s grief, as she turns Acis’s blood into a river as a symbol of eternal union.
